My dream is to use yoga as a tool to change Kakuma!
I teach yoga in Kakuma. And I motivate youth who are passionate about yoga to become professionals in this discipline.  My name is Steven Okun Ogak. I am single, 23 years old and from South Sudan. I arrived in Kakuma in 2000 due to civil war in my home country. The main thing that I like about Kakuma is the free education that both host communities and refugees benefit from. But I really dislike the unemployment and the desperation that most youths face here after high school. It is really discouraging. My dream is to use yoga as a tool to change society. To see youth getting employed and to see society living in a positive mindset. I am sure I can help transform my society through yoga and to relief the people here from trauma and stress. I want to become a well-known yogi and writer who will share his fellow refugees’ stories globally. And the only way to get there is to just believe in yourself and to work hard. The dearest memory I have about Kakuma is witnessing divided communities living together and sharing common water taps. I prefer to live in my home country South Sudan because my nation needs youth leaders who can bring change and prosperity. My message to the world is that Kakuma is a place where dreams are developed for a better tomorrow. Refugees are people who have potential and who can become incredible people.
